"Abu Simbel Temple for Rameses II"

[link] My Egypt Gallery

I wanted to see this very famous ancient temple in Southern Egypt. My boat stopped at Aswan. I crossed the gigantic Aswan dam then flew for an hour to Abu Simbel. The temperature was scorching hot. I think it was about 115 degrees Farhenheit. I waited about ten minutes for tourists to stop milling around this site. In the meantime, I roasted in the very hot sun. Here is a sample [link] of the hieroglyphics on the inside.

Abu Simbel is also known as The Temple of Ramesses II and as The Temple of Nefertari dedicated to Hathor.

[link] The two temples, that of Ramesses II primarily dedicated to Re-Harakhte, and that of his wife, Nefertari dedicated to Hathor, became a must see for Victorians visiting Egypt, even though it required a trip up the Nile, and often they were covered deeply in sand.

You get another reward by waiting for the tourists to get out of the way. You get to experience the scene for a longer time
