Mel Ikeda Bonsai by AndySerrano Mel Ikeda Bonsai by AndySerrano
Mel Ikeda Bonsai

This bonsai, grown by Mel Ikeda, won a top prize in a Nisei week bonsai competition. Bonsai (盆栽?) (lit. bon-planted) is the art of aesthetic miniaturization of trees, or of developing woody or semi-woody plants shaped as trees, by growing them in containers. Cultivation includes techniques for shaping, watering, and repotting in various styles of containers.

'Bonsai' is a Japanese pronunciation of the earlier Chinese term penzai (盆栽;). A 'bon' is a tray-like pot typically used in bonsai culture. The word bonsai is used in the West as an umbrella term for all miniature trees in containers or pots. [link] video on how to care for a bonsai tree.

I've always wanted a bonsai, but they're too expensive here

Even if you bought the bonsai, they require a lot of care. It's almost like having a pet.

Yes. It is very beautiful. I especially love the moss. However, the moss was added to the base prior to the show. Thank you for the fave.

This bonsai tree is absolutely beautiful! So many little things 2 look at, but not at all over whelming. Great picture!

If I didn't have school in the morning, I'd probably stare at this picture all night. lol

I really want to take care of my own bonzi tree one day. For not there is a new baby on the way to think about.

I need to start making some bonzai dishes in pottery, and then start a bonzai tree in one.

I wish you luck. The pot is called a "bon." Thanks for the fave on Ben Oki Bonsai!

they are impossible to start. I had three bonzais 20 years ago. I cherished them -- they were very young trees -- around 30 to 60 years old. I took such good care of them. Then I had to go somewhere for three or four weeks and I left them in the care of a friend, and she neglected them, and all three trees died. I was so sad, but I loved my friend more than the trees so I did not get mad at her.

Sad your friend didn't know how to care for it.

its true. She was a beautiful person, but there was some root missing. I can't explain it.
