Peak Experience 2

On Sunday, May 3rd, 2009, our hiking and climbing group made the ascent up Strawberry Peak in Southern California.

The hiking time was 6 hours round trip. The elevation gain was 2680 feet. It was a class 3 climb (Class 4 requires ropes).

I understand that! There was one time in my life a number of years ago...when I got to the top of a canyon ridge about 175 miles north of here...in the middle of wild, wild country and NO one around...that I questioned my sanity and swore they would have to being a helicopter in to get me off that mountain! (I was with my son, stepson, husband and brother-in-law..... who had no fear) (I did finally make my way back down, but not without fear!) Love your photos,Andy! :-)

At least you had the option of calling a helicopter. At Mt. Whitney, if you call a helicopter, they tell you to bring the body or injured person down 3,000 feet before they would consider the request for assistance!

Geeze.....now that would be difficult!! I guess it would be good to remember that when going for a climb!!

Actually......it was before cell phones (when I did my hike) and no communities around for miles and miles.....and the only way to get a helicopter there - IF they would have come - would be for one of the other people to hike out (a 3 - 4 hour hike) to the road and car and then driven 50 miles or more to the nearest phone (maybe) to call and see......if MAYBE....there might be someone with a helicopter around! That's why I decided that I HAD to climb back down! lol I learned a lesson! :D

That's pretty bad if you have a life-threatening injury or heart attack.

Very cool! Though it looks very slippery where you are standing here. How many years now total would you say you've done rock-climbing?
