The super perigee moon is the biggest and brightest moon in twenty years. (March 19, 2011) It's even more rare than a blue moon, which occurs every two and a half years.
The moon is about 31,000 miles closer to the earth than its farthest point of orbit. That is called an apogee.
Using an HDR technique, I took eight photos from Mt. Washington in Los Angeles and merged them to get this effect.
