My Exercise Class Students
My Saturday morning Arcadia Cardio Dance and Core Fitness class students were fantastic! It was so much fun hanging out and talking and laughing afterwards.
Saturday Night at the Symphony
One Saturday night, my new friend, Tammy, and I went to the Symphony in Long Beach. Among others, we heard Debussy, Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun; Dukas, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice; and SAINT-SAËNS Danse macabre. We met a Tanya's Zumba class. And we both like Chakira's class. My wife, Barbara ,was under the weather with a bad cough and could not go. So, she gave her ticket to Tammy. She certainly made me laugh a lot!
Stepped in for Susan
I had not visited Susan's Zumba class for about a year and missed it very much. She is fluid, like water, and all her moves logically flow from one to another. She welcomed me back by letting me lead this version of "Uptown Funk." I gave it my all in spite of my bad chest cold.

Taught Zumba then Got Chinese Foot Massage
One Thursday morning, I began by doing a full class of Zumba/Bollywood with Tanya. It was followed by lunch with my wife, Barbara. Katalina and I then did two hours of Zumba rehearsals. Afterwards, she took me to her favorite Chinese foot massage place and we both had our aching feet fixed. You get your shoulders, head, and neck also given treatment.
If you live in the Northern Los Angeles area, you are invited to take my exercise classes.

My Patent In 2007, I had created a model for a unique transportation device, some of you know I had called it the PILLBUG. I personally did all the paperwork, diagrams, schematics, and art, and submitted it to the Patent Office. When they sent me a letter, both Barbara and I had interpreted it as meaning that my patent had not been approved. We forgot about the whole thing. Six months ago, a friend of mine, Nini, was encouraging me to file for it again. This morning, I opened my mail and a man from an Eastern State told me he was interested in doing something with my device that he had found on the US Patent Office website. I thought, "What the Hell???? I didn't know I had a patent!!" Now my head is reeling.

35th Anniversary
November 27, marked 35 years since Barbara and I tied the knot. It's still going strong. I think the Force is with us.
Trump
I was horrified when Trump was elected President of the USA. Although Hillary Clinton had two million more votes than Trump, the racists, bigots, and suckers who swallowed the Right Wing propaganda spewed by Alt-Right Fascist/Nazi web sites convinced the gullible, ill-informed people, in the rural farm states to vote for Trump. This caused an Electoral College majority. This is a low-point for America. I am ashamed of being American, but happy I live in Liberal California. And, quite frankly, if you are offended by this message, please take me off your watch list. I do not want Deplorables to have any association with me or my art.
Chola and Andy and Legs
Before heading to the gym, I was walking to an ATM machine on York in Highland Park to get money for my tailor and Barbara's golf lessons when I heard someone walking quickly toward me from behind. A young woman's voice said to me, "Yo, hey dude" a couple of times. I turned around and it was a cute rotund chola (Hispanic gang-member associate) with a huge gang tattoo on her neck. I stopped and faced her in puzzlement. She said, with her hands flipping sideways in a stereotype cholla fashion, "Hey man. Howdya did you get dem legs? Biking? Hiking?" I told her I hike and work out with Zumba and dance. She began asking me how to lose weight and get better legs. I told her, "Take some scissors to your tortillas and sweet bread and cut them in half and eat cheese and avocado between meals to kill your appetite." She said, "Thanks dude. Ya know. That's gonna be hard. I love sweet bread and tortillas." She rubbed her belly. I reassured her that eating an ounce of cheese or an avocado slice between meals will help take the sting away. As she was about to walk away, she bent down and took another look, "Damn dude. A woman would kill for those pins. Later man." it was pretty funny. (Stock photo of a Cholla.)
Wordament
When Barbara and I have a spare moment, we sometimes play Wordament on the net. You play against hundreds of other people. It's like Scrabble but hundreds of times faster.
Stock Trading Program Complaint
One November morning, I was I was tormenting the computer programmers at Merrill-Lynch stock trading desk. I told them their new improved trading assistant, market analyzer, is worse than useless. I told them that some greedy programmer must have gone running with his creation to management and swiftly got his bonus before any clients actually tried to use it. And I said, to make it worse, you have to take 10 separate steps just to launch the program and it runs like something that ran on a PC before Windows was invented. All he could do was laugh and apologize. He thanked me for being a good sport. This is how I make most of my income.

You were terrific Tess!

I’m trying to memorize this entire dance so I can teach it to my exercise class. It’s a big challenge. The next class session begins in January.

One of Buddha’s Ideas
As a child, I read every book in the school library probably because I didn't know how to socialize and I sucked at sports. The life of Buddha had an impact on me. (No. I am not a Budddhist. He merely had an impact. I don"t subscribe to belief systems.) Buddha taught by example that desire for more things and high expectations of what to expect keep us unhappy. If you go somewhere and you have created an expectation of how everyone should behave then you have set yourself up for disappointment. When a snake bites you, it is irrational for you to be disappointed in the snake. It is the nature of the snake to bite. However, it is the nature of a human to figure out what is the nature of other creatures and things. Being constantly disappointed in other people then is not the fault of the other people, but of oneself for not properly assessing the nature of the other person.
Swinging in the Rain
Barbara and I played 18 holes of golf the last Sunday morning of October. By the 12th hole. It began to sprinkle. By the 15 hole, it was pouring. We finished the game at the 18th and went to breakfast with someone who had joined us at the 6th hole because his partner was too negative. We all had a great time.
Scream
In the past few weeks, I've really stepping out of my comfort zone and experimenting with ways to get my aerobics and Zumba classes to scream, grunt, wail and shout. The results have been a fundamentally transforming experience for everyone. Most definitely, this will be a standard staple from now on.
Salsa Classes
Barbara and I went to our usual Thursday and Friday night Salsa Dance classes every week.
Barbara & Andy Serrano heading out for the symphony where our permanent, front-row seats were waiting for us to hear: Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Overture Fantasy, Prokofiev’s Symphony #5 in B-flat major, and Vaughan Williams’ Tuba Concerto in F Minor.

Liliana & Andy's Final Dance Together. Liliana and Andy have been dancing together for several years. Now, she will be moving to another state and so this is a bittersweet dance together for the final time. Liliana danced with Beto in Colombia, the founder of Zumba, way before he made it Zumba. She's one of the best. Thank you Liliana for mentoring me to become a Zumba instructor.
