30th Anniversary Coming up in November
Married Photo</a>
To celebrate, my wife originally wanted to charter a plane and take all our friends somewhere, but I think the economic climate helped nix that idea.  Maybe we might invite them all to a special restaurant.  Another idea we are mulling is perhaps a trip to New Orleans or Puerto Rico.  It's hard to decide what to do with such an important anniversary!!  How did we stick together for 30 years?  We've always been able to read each other's minds even since the beginning.  We're very open with each other and we also tell each other pretty much everything.  Consideration and respect for each other are important for a long-term relationship.  If either of us wants to change careers, go to school, make new friends, etc, the other other person acts to support that.  I read interesting articles to her from the newspaper out loud so that she is not excluded from me when I am reading it. Our incomes are pooled.  If we watch TV, we mostly watch shows that we both agree to watch together.  We read the same comic together as a daily ritual.  I know it sounds like a lot of togetherness, but we also have many friends and other activities we do with our own friends.  Most of my friends happen to be female and most of hers are male.  If she ever happens to want a friends-with-benefits friend, I've never said, "no."  Those things tend to flame-out if you just leave them to run their course.  We don't try to control each other. That's important. And, most of all, your spouse is an independent person who should be admired, respected, and never put down even in the worst of arguments.

Kilimanjaro
Julie</a>
Julie, one of our Amazon hikers, told me she just came back from Kenya and Tanzania. She said it was "awesome." She made it to the top of Kilimanjaro. It was hard but rewarding. We will be holding a celebration hike with the group in Mid-November.

Pilates and Boot Camp Exercise
Exercise</a>
Ever since my old gym, where I've been going for seven years, raised their prices, I've been going there much less, but created an alternative.  In the alternative, I run uphill a couple of miles to the top of Mt. Hollywood in Los Angeles.  Once I'm at the top, where there are four benches, I chat up whoever is there and get them to exercise with me. Usually, when I chat up the people, they are grateful, get some laughs out of it, and then we all teach and show each other some moves.  Usually, there are people resting up there willing to go along with it.  The best part if that it is outdoors.  (As of this writing, I joined another gym.)

Mistaken for a Woman!
Bee Rock Photo</a>
I was jogging up a mountain, towards the end of October, when I heard someone jogging behind me. A woman's voice said to me, "When I was a hippie, I also didn't shave my legs."  I turned around and the woman saw that I am a male.  She blushed and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, but with those short denims and nice legs, I thought you were a woman!"  I told her I was very complimented.  Two days later, on Halloween, after I completed a five mile run, I went into the supermarket. There, a man said to me that I was brave for dressing like a babe for Halloween. So, to screw with his head, I raised my voice an octave or two and said, "Excuse me, but I AM a babe."  I laughed when I left the store.

Super Amazon Hike
Amazons</a>
Amazons began their super hiking and climbing adventure with a visit to the old car wreck on Saturday, October 22, 2011

Amazons</a>
Amazons climbed the treacherous Waterfall Trail. Several boulders became dislodged and some people had to duck so the boulders would fly over or under them. The last quarter of the climb had very few handholds and the soil was sandy with barely any foot support. Afterwards, they descended Bird Bath and climbed Paul's Peril. Almost everyone had cuts, gashes, and bruises as "badges."

Hedge Fund Managers no Better than Monkeys
www.marketwatch.com/story/can-… I feel much better about my investment skills now that I read that Emory University found, after looking at hedge-fund performances over the past 30 years, the average manager has done worse than if a monkey had picked the stocks.  So far, as long as I end up even a few thousand Dollars ahead at the end of the year, I'll have done better than a hedge fund manager. (My job search still has turned up no offers. So, I guess managing my stocks has become my job.  I don't have the luxury of having leeway to make mistakes.)

Desi and Dog Whisperer
Desi</a>
Desi and I hung out Sunday afternoon. First, we went to Balboa Park where she had her photo taken with Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer. (I had never heard of him.) Afterwards, we hiked in the Santa Monica mountains towards the end of Reseda Blvd. It was a total butt-kicker. Desi is a real sweetie.
