The colourful flower hairpins that decorate the hair of maiko (apprentice geisha) are known as hana kanzashi. These flower ornaments change monthly to express the season.
The maiko (apprentice geisha) is called Umechiho. If she were an Umechiho (a first year maiko) only her lower lip would have been painted red.
I don't know why she is holding a foil fan instead of a traditional fan. I was unable to speak with her.
