This temple is dedicated to the falcon headed god Horus. At the bottom, there were a dozen tourists under the figures and under the heads of the falcon statues. I took them out in order to preserve the purity of the temple. However, under the right hand figures, I only air-brushed them out because I could not paste in the proper hieroglyphs. So, if there is a blank space there, then that is where tourist had stood.

It is dedicated to the falcon headed god Horus, and, according to ancient tradition the first stone temple to be built at Edfu was designed around 2660 BC by Imhotep, architect of Sakkara, the Step Pyramid, which was based on a plan that fell from heaven. Successive temples were built on the site; and, in 237 BCE, Ptolemy II ordered the construction of a new one, which was completed in 57 BCE.

OSIRIS WAS CUT INTO 14 PIECES, BUT PENIS WAS MISSING
The temple was built on the site where Horus was said to have fought with his evil Uncle Seth to avenge his father's death and gain control of the world. The evil Seth trapped Osiris in a coffin & threw him into the Nile. Isis found Osiris' body and was able to revive him long enough to conceive their son, Horus. Seth then took Osiris' body, cut it into 14 pieces and threw it back into the Nile.
